Do Something Because You Love It

One of the most precious things that we have is free will. Freedom to choose, freedom to be, and freedom to love. Keeping in the theme of love this month, let’s discuss how love plays in a role in everything that we do.

Reflect back on a time in your life when you had to make a choice about something. For example, did you choose your career because of the salary, or because you enjoyed making a difference? Did you choose a certain meal because you just wanted to eat, or because you really loved the dish?

Are you mostly motivated by the joy and love of an activity, or by the external rewards which come from doing it?

There is no wrong answer to this question, but it does provide insight into what you hold valuable. There are also many benefits of doing what you love. Here are a few:

1 - You’re happier. People are happier doing the things that they love because they made the choice themselves.

2 - You feel more fulfilled in life. When you’re happy and doing what you love, your life feels that much more meaningful. You have purpose now and that in itself is motivating.

3 - You are much more aware. When you love what you’re doing, you are much more aware of yourself and your surroundings. You start to notice the things that help build you up and remove the things that tear you down.

4 - You’re a better person overall. When we finally reach a point of self-awareness, it translates into the very fibers of our beings. We are better people to ourselves, to others and to the world. Who doesn’t want that?

My charge to you is to make a promise to yourself today that everything you do going forward will be because you love it.
